Nick Cave, Foreplay in a Song

«Henry Lee» is a song from the album “Murder Ballads”, by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. The song is about a crime of passion and tells the story of a woman who kills a man because he did not sleep with her or love her. It is a duet with PJ Harvey, a British rock singer who was in a relationship with Cave at the time. In the video, we see Cave and Harvey, singing the disturbing lyrics, leading to the murder of the man, but the passion between Harvey and Cave, shines through in their performance.

A little bird lit down on henry lee

She leaned herself against a fence Just for a kiss or two

And with a little pen-knife held in her hand

She plugged him through and through

And the wind did roar and the wind did moan.
