The professional wrestler and truly an American icon “Iron Sheik” who took advantage of the conflict between Iran and America in the past few decades and made a legendary status for himself is in fact an Iranian. In 2005, the Iron Sheik was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame by his old rival, Sgt. Slaughter.
Hossein Khosrow Ali Vaziri, 73, better known as one of the most famous evil wrestlers of WWE, was one of Iran’s popular athletes. He competed in the 1968 Olympics in Mexico City on its Greco-Roman wrestling team, and even served for a while as a bodyguard for the family of the Shah.
The documentary, The Sheik , looks at the life of Khosrow Vaziri as a character who continued struggling through his years of addiction to the death of his young daughter all the way to the WWE Hall of Fame. The Iron Sheik made its debut last night at the Hot Docs International Film Festival in Toronto.
